When I buy a kit, what am I buying?
Valid question! You are buying everything you need to build a page exactly the way it is presented. This EXCLUDES scissors, glue and any tool used. Tools include ink, glitter glue, and things like that.
If a glitter paper is used- then of course, that will be included. If we use ribbon, flowers, etc. you will too, receive that recommended amount.
How on earth do I use the supplies to make the pages?
Surprisingly, it's EASY! (Hence our name, Scrap 'Em Easy)
We are know for making things look incredible difficult, but we break it down so that you are only cutting BASIC shapes. You will never be asked to cut out something intricate- or something that you MUST use an exacto for. The smallest piece you will need to cut out is generally the inside of an "a" or "e".
Starting with our most recent monthly kits in November, we began to print the designs directly onto their specific cardstock colors. So, instead of cutting out a white template, tracing it, and then cutting it again... NOW you will simply cut the piece out. This saves time- which is valuable.
***Every monthly kit will now feature this timesaving technique!***
I'm just beginning- This looks too difficult??
Understandable! The kits are designed for every scrapper to take their current scrapping to the next level. If you are worried that there are just too many steps, we would recommend trying out a "basic kit". Many of our "basic kits" still having the paper piecing techniques, so you can more easily break into it. It is less overwhelming this way, and you will be unlikely to quit halfway through the project.
However if you are patient, YOU CAN DO THESE KITS! They are NOT hard, they are just more time consuming than a quick page set and gluing on buttons.
How much time should I expect to spend?
That depends, some of the kits can be finished in 1 1/2 hours and others 3-4. Of course this is variable, if you are a slow worker- then expect to spend longer.
You should expect to do a lot of cutting (all with lines to follow- so you do NOT draw ANYTHING) and a lot of gluing. But that is all. A paper piecing kit will never require more from you
What else do I need to make my pages look like the finished product?
You will need a paper cutter, scissors, glue, pop up dots and usually ink or chalk. It's not a bad idea to have a glitter glue bottle (from K-Mart or Target) to have handy.
I've never made a tear Bear before?
*** Keep in mind, the tear bears are FAST and for the most part very easy. The only tricky part is the face. We provide basic eyes and noses for your bears. However, there are many ways to make these bears your own. You can make them as difficult as you want to. We have experimented on several types of faces (As you can see in our several examples) but when I am making my own bears, I always stick with the white gel pen. The white gel pen is ALL I use to dot my whites of the eyes and to highlight the nose. I would say on average a bear can be made start to finish 15 minutes or so.
